Shubh: Welcome to season

two, episode eight of

Your Business

is on the Line,

Canada's number

one business comedy

podcast.

The podcast where serious people come on and pitch

unserious business ideas. I'm

here today with co-host

Philippe Burns.

Philippe: Hello, hello.

Shubh: And

special guest Alyssa

McMaster.

Philippe: Whoa.

Alyssa: Yeah, and I love how you call me serious. That's so nice.

Shubh: Yeah. Uh, Alyssa, we met, uh,

one week ago-

Alyssa: Yeah ...

Shubh: at the Toast

Conference-

Alyssa: Yeah, we did

Shubh: where you and Philippe were co-hosting.

Alyssa: Ugh, it was not

Shubh: so good. I mean, uh, can I just...

You were hosting. Philippe was co-hosting with you. Yeah, I was

Alyssa: hosting. Yeah. He was just, you know- The, the man ... as a emotional sport, support man.

Shubh: Yeah. Emotional support

Alyssa: man. A white guy.

Shubh: Always

the co-host, never the host.[00:01:00]

That's

it.

Alyssa: And can

we talk about, uh,

you know, when we were, we were doing it, I had this whole bit that

I was gonna,

like, play this

music- ... and Phil comes out.

Shubh: Yeah. I

was there, yeah.

Alyssa: Right.

And

did you notice

that no

music played? That's right. And then Phil starts walking up,

and not a single person was clapping.

Yeah. I was like, "Bro."

Shubh: And for, for, for the audience, this

is a, uh, like, a women in entrepreneurship

conference. Yeah. So the audience is, uh, a

thr- a few hundred people, six men.

Alyssa: Yeah.

Philippe: Six men.

Shubh: Yeah.

Philippe: yeah. And, and Alyssa goes up there, does a

whole dance, get everyone's, gets

everyone standing, doing, like,

a kinda TikTok dance, and

then goes- It was a

Alyssa: Lush Life dance- Yeah

which was so fun.

Philippe: Lush Life. and then

she goes like, "I'm missing someone. Where's Phil?" And then,

and then goes- And then... And- I, And I, and

I- Cr- cr- cricket ... she goes, "There he is." And I walk

through the aisle- ... of 200 women, and, like,

I think you were the only person clapping. I was the only... I

Alyssa: did this. No,

it it was

so funny.

And then we were supposed to play The Man I Need. Yeah. Uh,

like, << Come be the man I need >> Yeah. And

didn't play. Yeah. And literally one...

Anyway, so I made

him go back. We had to

redo it. Yeah. And it

was

kind of, like, part of the bit. Like,

there's, like, there's,

[00:02:00] like, an endearment in doing it wrong the first time.

Shubh: Can, can you and

I just talk about something for a second- Yeah, of course ... without Philippe?

Okay. Um-

Alyssa: Yeah, bye ...

Shubh: the burden of having him as a

Alyssa: co-host. Bro, yeah.

Shubh: Can we talk

about that?

Alyssa: It's rough.

Shubh: Yeah. It's, uh- What, uh, what burden? Like- Hey,

sorry, Philippe. Uh, just one second. Go

Alyssa: ahead. Yeah, yeah. Can we talk um- Yeah. So in the morning...

can I tell... I'm gonna just tell the- Yeah, please ... and then I

want your take, too. Yeah. In the morning I got a text, and he said, "Hey,

can you..." And I'm not making

this up. Yeah. He actually said

this. "Can you just, like,

send me

everything we talked about-" Yeah ... "about today?"

Shubh: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I

Alyssa: was like- Yeah, hold up

I was like, "Yeah, bro, for sure. I can do that." But now

Philippe: hold on.

pause. Let me, let me, let me save

myself here. Then

Alyssa texts me and goes,

"Oh, don't worry, I changed the

whole thing."

Alyssa: Um- I did ...

Shubh: my favorite thing

about... And actually, I mean, let's just preface this by saying it's been a wonderful experience, but we're just

making fun of him right now.

So, um- Yeah ... my favorite

thing is, uh, we'll get on the call, and he'll just,

right before the guest

comes on, he'll be like, "Uh, Shubh, I didn't Do any prep?" It's like, I looked at the domain

of their email

address.

And

it works

Alyssa: [00:03:00] Yeah ...

Shubh: but

it's still very funny. C- I mean, to be fair, I don't

do a lot of

prepping. I

Alyssa: don't either.

Yeah. And Phil and I talk about this too whenever we ho- this is our second

year hosting

that

same event.

Yeah. And we riff

better just when we don't really have any plans. Oh,

Shubh: I'll, yeah, I, I

think we'd do poorly if we actually prepared. Yeah. We did prepare the first

few episodes. We had, like, little

sections of things

we wanted to talk about.

Philippe: Uh, yeah.

Shubh: Yeah.

But we don't do that anymore. We, maybe we should,

maybe we should've done

Alyssa: that. No. No, I

like it.

Shubh: Um, but

it is a lot. We should get Mark

Le

Dain on here,

and you,

me, and Mark, and just talk about what it's like

to co-host with Philippe.

Alyssa: Perfect, and then Phil can come out of the crowd, and we can one clap

him.

Shubh: One clap him. Yeah, yeah.

Philippe: But, um,

Shubh: no- Oh,

I should say before you

keep going, we're, we're back at Red

Mile Records today.

We're back

Philippe: at Red Mile

Shubh: Records ... with Alec and Matt.

Alyssa: It's gorgeous. It's-

Shubh: I'm

Alyssa: super impressed ...

Shubh: isn't it beautiful?

Alyssa: Yeah.

Shubh: Um, can I talk about, I

got a bone to pick with, uh, Red Mile Records though for a second?

Philippe: Okay. Yeah, sure.

Shubh: So, uh, I think we were one of the first

podcasts

to book in here,

and, um, I've been trying to book a little

lately.

They're getting

busy.

Philippe: Damn.

Shubh: So they've been very

[00:04:00] accommodating, but,

um,

I don't know. I'm d- I'm, like, a little, I'm very happy for them that they're getting, uh- We should get priority

more, more successful. Yeah. But I also feel like we should get,

like, "Oh, Shubh,

I've already got somebody booked in that day," they should

just say, "Hey, don't

worry, I canceled them."

Alyssa: You know, and that

is how business works.

Shubh: I think

Alyssa: so too.

Shubh: Like, they're booked in for eight, like, two eight a- days,

like,

two eight-hour sessions.

You want the, the studio for 60 minutes. We're gonna bump 'em.

Alyssa: For

sure.

Philippe: Right.

Shubh: Okay.

Philippe: Eight hour, who's recording for eight hours?

Shubh: I don't know. People

are in here for eight hours? Alec, is that true? They recorded a podcast for eight hours

So,

so Alec is saying for the, the audience, two...

They came in and they

recorded two podcasts and

had a whole day

We did two podcasts a couple weeks ago in, uh,

two hours and seven minutes.

Philippe: Wow.

Shubh: Boom. So

just gotta get more

efficient. I'm not as good

as you guys. Anyway. No, no,

Who is?

Philippe: But, but[00:05:00]

may- Who is? ... maybe

to just add

a little bit of, a a sugar to Alyss-

Alyssa, uh-

Shubh: Yeah.

well, I wanna hear more about Alyssa ...

Philippe: is, is so incredible. I'm so excited to have her. Uh- Stop ... she's so intelligent and funny

Shubh: and- Can I honestly say,

so when I go to an event

sometimes and someone goes up to emcee, my usual immediate

default is, "I

should be

doing this."

Alyssa: Mm-hmm.

Shubh: I

did not think that when you were doing it.

Alyssa: That's the nicest compliment.

Shubh: Yeah, you were crushing it.

Alyssa: Thank you.

Shubh: Yeah, before Phil came.

Alyssa: Yeah, of course. And then, you know, dampers.

But still,

like, if it

was at 100,

like only down to

like

90.

Shubh: Yeah.

You

know when you're running down, uh, uh... When you're sprinting- Yeah ... and someone puts one of those parachutes on the back, you're not gonna sprint

as quickly, but

it's still good for you.

Alyssa: But I look good

doing it.

Shubh: Yeah, that's right. Right.

Exactly. Yeah. You look awesome.

Yeah.

Philippe: Can I tell you something else that was kind of crazy?

You were the parachute on the back just... I was the parachute. Yeah,

2_CAMERA 2: sorry.

Philippe: Just making sure real quick. Can I tell

you something

else that was crazy

that happened at the conference?

Yeah. Um, there was, uh,

the,

the, um,

head of diversity and inclusion at

ATB was speaking on the conference- Yeah ... and

spoke once with

you.

Shubh: Are we [00:06:00] gonna get ourselves into trouble here?

Philippe: Um, I don't think so. Um-

Shubh: Do you bank with ATB, anybody?

Philippe: But she was on the, the panel. Yeah. She was

on a panel that I wasn't watching 'cause I had to emcee the other stage.

Um,

and she comes up, like, a- after she spoke and goes, "Hey, sorry about the

potshot I took." I go, "What potshot?"

And she goes,

um, "Oh, uh,

I

moder- I emceed this three years ago.

and so I was up

on stage and I was like, I explained how I moderated three years ago and

how now they've replaced

me by a white guy." Oh, man.

And then I s- I said,

I said sh- then

she says, um,

"So they're taking all of our jobs." And I

just had to...

Then I had to go back on that stage,

and I was like, "Why, why does

everyone hate me?

Oh, yeah, 'cause, uh,

I've, I've

been made the enemy at this thing."

Alyssa: Yeah, that's a good point though. Yeah, but, you know,

uh, there's something just like really hot about being able-

to be the only

white guy in

a room Yeah, And-

Shubh: Alec knows what's up. Yeah

Alyssa: and, you know, handle [00:07:00] it. Right.

Shubh: Yeah.

Alyssa: So it's great.

Philippe: That's, that's

fair. Yeah, exactly.

Shubh: I often am like, "What's it

be- what, what would it

be like to be the only white guy

in the room?"

Alyssa: Right. Has it

ever happened?

Shubh: It's awesome. I've never actually only

been in a room with one of them.

Um, uh- What?

Philippe: I'm the

only white

guy you know?

I'm the only

Shubh: white guy, Phil?

Uh, Yeah. No. I'm saying there's always multiples.

Alyssa: Yeah.

Shubh: Um,

uh, actually, Philip,

before we leave that, you were very

kind during that conference 'cause my daughters had a booth.

They were doing their, uh, the

press-on nails and the crochet and, and Pip was up there pitching people to go down to the booth, bought an item

and was, like, waving it

around.

So, uh, and they did okay.

They sold 10 units and people-

Alyssa: Wow. Yay. Yeah. Good

for them.

Shubh: Yep.

Alyssa: They were awesome.

Shubh: Yeah. No, everybody was so kind

and supportive. Um, but we haven't really

talked at all yet about you- No

Alyssa. I

Alyssa: know. We're just talking about Phil, the white guy.

Shubh: Yeah. Uh, the gravitational pull that his people have, uh

Philippe: The whipping boy.

I'm just the whipping

Shubh: boy.

Oh

Alyssa: my God.

Shubh: Nope.[00:08:00]

Alyssa: Stop.

Shubh: Nope.

Alyssa: If

you

have to explain

a joke-

Shubh: yeah ... yeah ...

Alyssa: man. Just for,

Shubh: to explain it out there, the king would

have someone who got whipped on his behalf. That's

what the reference is.

Philippe: The prince, the prince. Yeah.

Shubh: Or prince. Yeah. I

mean,

I'm sure the king had a whipping- Well, I guess

nobody whipped the king.

Alyssa: Yeah, And that whipping boy was absolutely hired and paid

for

sure.

Anyways.

Shubh: Definitely a successful white man.

Alyssa: Move on.

Philippe: I,

uh...

Shubh: Alyssa, tell us a bit about yourself.

Alyssa: Ooh, that's a good question. Um, born and raised in Calgary. Yep. Which doesn't happen super often anymore. I have two awesome kiddos, five and two, so that's, like, a super exciting part of my life.

Um, but I'm here 'cause I

do, I'm a collector of side hustles in terms of- Amazing ... in terms of work. So, um, I'm in tech sales, is

like, my

bread and butter. Um, and then I do confidence coaching and speaking on the side as well. So I do, like, um,

I'm that

person who-

I get bored really easily, ADHD Yeah.

#anyoneelse who's

listening or anyone else here, Phil?

[00:09:00] But I get bored

easily, and I think when I started my career, I started in public relations. Yeah. Um,

and just, like, didn't quite fit into anywhere. Like, I was like, "Maybe I'll do government. Maybe I'll do sports. Maybe I'll

do something cool." And everything always just felt like I was forcing it, um, until I realized that, like, what if I just, like,

was entirely authentically me and just did

whatever I felt right?

Oh, yeah. And

just,

like, followed my

gut? And that

was, like,

super scary for a

lot of people around me. My mom, my mom's like, "You can't just, like,

be

a vibe," you know? Yeah.

Right. And I was like,

"But what

if I, what if

Philippe: I could?"

Uh, foreshadowing for my business idea, by the way.

Alyssa: Um,

but, uh- Got so excited ... yeah. So now I am the Head of Tech, uh, Head

of sales for NeedTech, which

is a really cool- Yeah

food rescue tech here

in Calgary. Oh, cool. Um, CEO is Lourdes

Juan, who

is an amazing, amazing entrepreneur in Calgary, so

that's been an awesome space. And then also, I do consulting for Sales for

Toast, which of course

is, uh, the women

and getting women into tech.

Shubh: Amazing. Uh, you mentioned two things, and I have follow-up

questions about.

Okay,

great. One is confidence [00:10:00] coaching.

Alyssa: Yeah. Let's get deeper

into

that.

Shubh: Well, maybe instead of explaining it, could you

maybe give,

uh, Philippe and I a bit of confidence coaching? Oh,

Philippe: just give Shubh- Yeah ... 'cause he

looks

a little nervous

Shubh: today. Yeah, yeah.

Yeah. Yeah, maybe-

For sure.

Alyssa: Phil doesn't

Shubh: need any ... as everybody

who know, everybody

who knows me professionally, I lack

confidence, so

Alyssa: like- Yeah, I don't think anyone

here knows it, but, but let's

do a

little sesh.

Yeah. Um, tell me about your

deepest childhood trauma. That's not it at all.

Um. Um.

Shubh: Yeah,

how much time

Alyssa: do

you need? No,

but- I

Philippe: actually know

his.

Alyssa: Yeah.

Give me.

Philippe: I got a few.

It's,

it's he broke his arm playing one, one down of football. That's

Shubh: right.

Alyssa: Oh,

Philippe: no.

Alyssa: And he,

Shubh: like, refuses- Yeah ...

Philippe: to

talk about it And then you're now done

Alyssa: forever.

Shubh: I didn't play football after that,

Alyssa: yeah. Yeah, I don't blame you. Yeah. Okay, so why don't

you get back on the field? What feels, what feels yucky there?

Shubh: Uh, my arm.

I

didn't like having two elbows briefly.

Alyssa: Fair

enough.

Shubh: But wait. Can you actually- Yeah

so confidence coaching, someone reaches out and

like,

"Hey, I want

to operate,"

uh, and I'm not trying to gas you

up too much, but you found this ability to, like-

Alyssa: Totally

Shubh: just do,

[00:11:00] just be,

and,

and that requires an immense- Yeah ... amount of confidence.

So that, is

that what you're trying to help

other people do?

Alyssa: Sometimes. Yeah. Um, to

me, confidence

is the ability to come back when something rocks you.

Shubh: Resilience.

Alyssa: It's resilience. Mm. I love resilience. Um. It's my

Shubh: favorite thing.

Alyssa: Yeah, and it's, I do it through a, a form called neutrality. So how do we get

to

a point that, like, things

feel neutral enough for us to make

a good decision? I love this.

Because

there's,

like, nothing fucking worse

than- People who are like look in the mirror and say affirmations and say that- Yeah ... you're the most amazing

person in

the world, like bullshit.

Yeah. Phil, maybe

Shubh: you

should stop doing

Alyssa: that.

Phil, Stop doing

that. Doesn't work.

Maybe it works for you.

Um, but it's often bullshit for so many people. Yeah. And, and people can't

actually resonate with that when they're not feeling fantastic about themselves.

But then

also, people then, uh, the other option is they go to, "I suck.

I'm the worst person in

the world,"

right? There's this lack of neutrality.

Um, so it's not about, confidence isn't about always being the

most amazing person

in the world

and feeling

you're your most

amazing. Um,

it's about

hit-

hitting your rock and then finding

that neutral [00:12:00] quicker. It's that like building that resilience quicker.

So some

people that I have, uh, clients that I have, their biggest, uh, goal in confidence

is to say no in a meeting- Yeah ... and

then nothing else after

Shubh: Yeah

Alyssa: right?

Shubh: Satisfying.

Alyssa: Some people's, some people's goal is to be like me and get on a stage.

Yeah. Um, some people's

goal is to just,

like, put

on an outfit that they really like and,

like, not

second-guess it all day long.

So everyone has, like, a totally different

goal

in confidence, and I think it

also looks

different for everybody. I'm, like, an extreme extrovert.

Like, like,

I only- Yeah ... get fired up by people. I- don't- I know ... really get

Shubh: that vibe.

Alyssa: Right? Um, there's not many of us. There's only a couple of us. Um, I'm extreme extrovert.

Uh, I- I'm, like, confidence for me looks very

different from someone

who's more of an introvert. Yeah. So that's what it's

all about, is finding what that, what your goal in

confidence is, um, for your own self,

and then being able

to build the resilience to come back

to that confidence faster, um, not to

not feel insecure.

Shubh: Whoa, that's incredible.

I don't know how you

arrived at that,

but it's amazing. [00:13:00]

Alyssa: Can I tell you?

Shubh: Yeah.

Alyssa: I'll tell you.

Shubh: Yeah.

Alyssa: Okay. So

I was in sales for

ever. Um, and I... The same week,

I had three different clients of mine

ask me how I'm so confident

and

if I can teach their daughters.

Philippe: No

way.

Alyssa: Mm-hmm. Whoa. So that was six years ago now, and it was

just, like, a universe thing.

Like,

people kept saying, like,

the exact same

line. Like- Yeah ... "How

do you do this?" A- and, and the one guy in particular, I walked in.

he was actually a car sales

guy. I was buying

a

car, and the one guy. And I walk in and I was like, "Hey, this is my budget. This is what I'm buying. That's the

car that I

want. So, like, make it happen."

And he was like, "How are you

so confident, and can you

teach

my daughter?" Yeah. And I was

like, "Yeah, okay, but get me the, get me the

car first." Yeah.

And then it was two clients, um,

who I would walked in and was

like, "Hey, here's the contract." Um, and they kind of were, like, trying to, like,

push the- push me around a little, and I was like, "Absolutely not.

This is the contract." They signed and

were happy, and they're like, "You need to teach my daughters how

to do that."

Shubh: Yeah.

Alyssa: So from

there I was like,

"I actually think

I can teach this."

Of course, like, I'm extroverted naturally, but that doesn't mean I'm confident naturally. [00:14:00] Sure.

Um,

so from hearing

that

this was a need, I started

building a course, a confidence

course.

I had

100 women take it in

the first six

months. Holy

Shubh: crap.

Alyssa: Um, and then from- Whoa ... yeah, it

was great. And from there

I learned a whole bunch of things about, like, what confidence means to

everybody else, um, what actually might

help and

what might not help,

and then I started

doing one-on-one coaching. From there, tech companies started reaching out,

and they're like, "Hey, you need to teach my

team because,

like, we

need our front of house

staff, AKA customer success- Yeah

"uh, sales,

to be able to have

these hard conversations,

um, and to be able to come back to that

neutral when you get, like, the big F you no." Especially in

sales, we know what that feels

like.

Shubh: Yeah.

How do you have time to do this with your full-time

job too?

Alyssa: Um, great question, an amazing husband.

Shubh: Yeah.

Alyssa: No, for real.

Like-

Philippe: Wow ...

Alyssa: like, yeah,

like,

I d- like, like, this is- He is great.

By the way, I've

met him before ... he's wonderful ... and I love him to my aunts

Shubh: actually. What's, what's his name?

Alyssa: His name's Steve.

Philippe: His name's

Shubh: Steve. Oh, right, Steve.

Alyssa: Yeah. If you actually wanna know some, like, lore- Great job,

Steve ... do you

wanna know some lore about Steve and

I?

Shubh: I, we love talking about

Alyssa: dating-

Shubh: Okay

dating, dating stories on

Alyssa: this podcast.

Okay.

[00:15:00] We met, um,

through a Christmas card. Phil, do you know this story yet? What?

Philippe: I think I do, but

Alyssa: please- Okay ... re- explain it ... wait, what

do you mean you

Shubh: met

through

Alyssa: a Christmas card? So I'll show you pictures later. Explain. Steve was tired

of getting, like, family Christmas cards with, like, all of the, the cute k- cute kids when he was single.

So he started making his own and he c- and,

like, his, his photographer called

it, like, dude noir.

So-

Shubh: Steve

is incredible.

Alyssa: Yeah,

no, he's incredible. Um

And the

picture that I saw, so he had done a couple before. The picture that I saw, I was at a party, I was,

like, dancing,

and I was like, "I just, like, need to be with a guy who's fun."

'Cause everyone's like, "You

need a guy who, like, settles you." And I was like,

"I don't think

that's for me." Right.

Like,

I

want someone who can, like, meet me at my level, but, like, how am I gonna find that? 'Cause I'm bizarre. Yeah. Um,

and I look on

the fridge and I see this guy in a leaf thong, hair down to his hips,

like, lying, like, like, an American Beauty style.

Um, and it was

like, "Merry Christmas, love Steve." Now,

I thought it was... Like, remember

The Chive? Remember when that was, like, a big thing?

Shubh: No.

Alyssa: You don't remember The [00:16:00] Chive?

It was like,

um,

pictures and memes, but, like, very

bro-y.

Shubh: Okay.

Alyssa: Um,

I thought

it was, like,

a picture from, like, some website, and they were like, "No, that's Steve and he's single, and I don't understand how we haven't connected you two,"

and then the rest is

history.

No way.

So, So, now we

do Christmas

cards together every year.

Um, the

Christmas card

last year got nine million views.

Shubh: Wow. Nine million views?

Alyssa: Yeah,

and I... I'll show you. What are

you

Shubh: doing on this

podcast?

Alyssa: No, I

know. Someone needs

to just hit me up for the business idea. You need

Shubh: a confidence coach.

Alyssa: I know. You need a confidence

Shubh: coach.

You should've said no.

Alyssa: Yeah. But back

to it, like, truly, like, he does, um, he

does a lot of the housework, he does a lot of the

parenting. Like, we, like, really s- probably 60/40 on

his side.

Yep. Um, plus he's

a,

an oil

and gas operator, so he is... Yeah.

But that's

how I do it.

Like,

and, and also grandparents. Yeah. The

real wealth nowadays is

having

grandparents who are hands-on.

Philippe: Yeah. Right.

Alyssa: Yeah.

Philippe: Absolutely.

Alyssa: Yeah. So, like, honestly,

that's how I'm able to,

like, quote-unquote, "Do it all," but

I also, like, I'm

a confidence coach.

I'm really good at setting boundaries. Yeah. [00:17:00] I'm really good at telling people,

"This is what

I can do. This is what I can't do," and then really just making sure that I stick

to them.

Philippe: Yeah.

Shubh: Exce- except this

time when you agreed

to do this podcast. No,

Alyssa: bro, this was so fun. I was thrilled. Can I tell you

Philippe: my number

one booster of confidence?

Alyssa: Yeah.

Shubh: Yeah.

I want to hear it. I would love to hear it. Um-

'Cause you,

you, you, you

operate with confidence, I would say.

Philippe: Well, thank you. Yeah. Um,

but it's, it's, it's a simple trick.

I,

gr- growing up, until I

was, like, 25, in, in

fact, I think

I still do, but had, um,

I didn't know this is

what it

was called, but hyperhidrosis. So

I

sweat, like, my pits sweat so

much. Yeah.

Um-

Shubh: I've been there ...

Philippe: and, and, like, before I would even leave the house, if I had

a shirt like this on-

Sweat

massive pits, pit stain.

Shubh: Yeah.

Philippe: Okay. And I was still, like, confident obviously, but not as conf- Like, I would never raise

my arms. My arms would just always be down.

Yeah. You'd

Shubh: wear a lot of

undershirts, yeah.

Philippe: Uh, I... No. I would sweat

through undershirts.

Wow. I

would sweat through hoodies. Okay, that's a lot. And I'm talking, like, before I left the

house.

Like, if I

was just wearing a T-shirt,

I wou- and I'd be

working or something, a bead of sweat [00:18:00] running down my arm.

Oh. So

then I discovered

Drysol. It's this,

like,

uh, deodorant that you put

once every three months on. And it's, uh, well, you

gotta

start, like, using it

a lot more, uh,

and then y- it goes

down

to once

every three months.

I, I swear to God, it could double as, like,

cement

sealant.

Alec: Yeah,

Philippe: Yeah.

Alec: It's

Philippe: like- ... I'm not convinced

it's good for you.

Yeah. But don't sweat anymore at all and, uh,

now I can, now

I can do this.

Oh. I can raise my arms, and, uh, I'm, I'm g- I started

using it

when I

was 25. I honestly think, like, w- who would I be if I had discovered this when I was,

like,

17?

Alyssa: This podcast- This is- ... is brought to

you by

Shubh: Drysol. I would love- I

would, I

Philippe: would love- I, I would- ... to

be a, an ambassador of Drysol.

Shubh: This is interesting, if we could

digress for a sec. Uh, armpit sweat. You know, pe- I'm always jealous when people can just wear,

like,

dark shirts

Like gray shirts

Alyssa: Yeah

Shubh: Like just gray T-shirts,

'cause I'm like, uh,

"No, I get sweaty."

Philippe: Drysol, brother.

Shubh: [00:19:00] Drysol. You also, um... so well some other tips over time. Shampoo instead of soap in your underarms-

Alyssa: Oh ...

Shubh: also

reduces

the amount of sweat.

Philippe: Interesting.

Shubh: Yeah,

big time. This is a

Alyssa: fun one

Shubh: too- And

if- you're- ...Witch

Alyssa: hazel ...

Shubh: in an absolute pinch, and this is giving away the whole goose, they have these little things you can put

on the underside of

your shirt, like little pads that, uh,

they are

hard to see.

I

Philippe: heard about the

pads. Yeah. I, I think I

just

never wanted

to do the pads.

Shubh: Yeah. It

seems so- But that's

only in an emer- It's just like literally like a, like a- That's only in an emergency. It's like an armpit

Alyssa: tampon. Yeah, but like, like,

Shubh: yeah-

Alyssa: But an armpit pad. Yeah. like the branding is like- Yeah ... is like,

"Raw for men."

Shubh: Yeah, yeah.

Totally. "

Alyssa: Pads for

men."

Shubh: But I'd always looked

at Drysol, but I never could... I was like, "What is that gonna do

to my body?" But maybe I need to get

on board.

Philippe: I'd, I'd looked at some, uh, um, some studies, and it wasn't too bad.

Shubh: Were, were

they studies presented by

Dr. Drysol? Yes.

Alyssa: One-in-one doctor recommended.

Yes.

Shubh: It's- Um,

Alyssa, so that's

amazing. Confidence coaching, tech sales. You also, though, are, like, a professional host.

Alyssa: [00:20:00] Yeah,

yeah, and, and, and it's really only come

up in the last

couple years that

people are really excited about this, 'cause I think we've

all been at

events that are, like-

Shubh: Boring ...

Alyssa: so

boring.

Yeah. I

think there's, like, most events are so boring. Um, and before that was, like, I think necessary when, like, when, like, all of,

like, their

CEOs were just, like, stiff old guys. Um-

Shubh: I don't know that it ever

was

necessary ...

Alyssa: right? That's the question. I'm

trying to

give a little bit of benefit of the doubt, thinking that,

like, these- Yeah

old

guys had a little bit of fun. But the thing is, like, all those guys had way too much

fun behind the scenes. Like- Yeah ... I think our generation is just- Tons

Philippe: of, tons of, they were doing

cocaine ...

Alyssa: they were doing cocaine and- and strippers. Yeah.

Yeah. You know? Yeah. And, uh, I think our generation is

just bringing it, that fun to

the forefront- Yeah

and

realizing we don't need cocaine. We actually just need, I don't know-

Philippe: Someone

exciting

Alyssa: up there ... someone exciting up there.

Yeah. So- A fun

Shubh: conversation

Alyssa: so yeah, so, uh, I probably do, like, one a month of, like, hosting. Um,

and, uh-

Shubh: But the craziest thing to me that you told me- Yeah ... if it's okay to say.

Alyssa: Yeah.

Shubh: Someone you don't know-

Alyssa: Yes ...

Shubh: asked you to emcee their wedding- Yeah

and

Alyssa: paid you. Yeah, [00:21:00] and someone I know, like,

a

little bit.

Shubh: Yeah.

Alyssa: Um, but like-

Well, we

all

Shubh: know

Alyssa: everyone ... yeah, but,

like, not an... And,

and yeah, they paid me to emcee their wedding, and I was like, "This is actually so, so sick," and, like, "This is

what I wanna

do forever."

Shubh: I love microphones, first of all. Have you emceed a

wedding

Alyssa: before? Do you?

Philippe: Uh, I got

one coming up. I'm really nervous

about it,

Shubh: but

yeah. Emceeing a wedding is the greatest because the crowd

is... There, there's

no, uh, there's no static.

The crowd

is ready to enjoy

anything that

you do.

Alyssa: Absolutely.

Shubh: Everybody's in a good mood. Uh, it's the best

Alyssa: No, it's, it's so fun

Shubh: And my, all my friends now

have been married for quite some time. I

haven't been able to MC a wedding since like ni- like 2008. I had a run

where I did like three in a year.

Alyssa: Yeah.

Philippe: Ugh. This is like your dream, right? No, it's true.

Shubh: Getting paid to MC. Maybe. I'm

just saying

if you

ever gotta sub, sub something out, Alyssa, you got

two

bookings in an evening,

you know.

Yeah. Well,

Alyssa: maybe-

Shubh: I'll, you take your cut,

and I will try

not to embarrass you. Maybe if somebo- you know, I [00:22:00] could add a little color to a wedding. I'm just

saying. Oh,

Alyssa: that sounds really nice, actually.

Shubh: Yeah. If you ever ask to host- 'Cause you know

what? A lot of the weddings I have- ... an Indian wedding,

I

could maybe, I could pop in

Alyssa: Oh, that'd

be really nice.

You know if you want Do you know how to dance? Do you know Bollywood dancing?

Shubh: I can, I can sing and dance a

little.

Oh, yeah, you can. Whoa. I don't wanna toot, I don't wanna toot my

own horn

Philippe: That's impressive.

Shubh: But

Alyssa: you

got

Shubh: to How do you- You got to if you're-

Alyssa: Okay,

great. But I don't know... Actually, no, Indian weddings are the ones

who would probably

want me the

most, like, let's be honest.

Yeah, they-

Just like pump it up the,

like, on five

days straight.

Shubh: Yeah, that's the thing, is

you, you, you gotta

give up two weekends.

Alyssa: Yeah. But- Minimum ...

Shubh: that is incredible. Your

background is incredible.

I think this confidence coaching is incredible. I'm

sorta like

y-

people should do this.

Yeah. Resilience, there is

nothing I think more important

in this world than the ability to

be resilient.

I've talked about this before on the podcast, but we've been through some stuff

the last couple years. You know, my, my mom passed away, my

brother passed away, my wife just recovered from breast cancer. I'm like, if you can't recenter yourself-

Mm-hmm ... through each of these, like, real things that

are going on,

the fuck?

How are

you gonna get

through the day,

the week, the month?

Alyssa: 100%.

Shubh: [00:23:00] So everybody reach out.

What's the confidence coaching business called?

Alyssa: Let Me

Introduce Yourself.

Shubh: Ugh.

Alyssa: Cute,

right?

Philippe: Oh, that's

really cute.

Alyssa: Oh,

thanks.

Shubh: That is an incredible name.

Alyssa: Thank you.

Shubh: I'm yelling, I'm so

Alyssa: excited.

And then it,

like, and then it, like, kinda, like, just flew into, like, also, like,

my hosting and, and

emceeing too 'cause, like, it's just kind of like...

It's a g- yeah,

it's

a fun name.

Shubh: Alec, you gotta

get

Alyssa on

your influencer podcast.

He's gonna do it.

Alyssa: Yeah, 'cause I also do influencing

work, which is horrible, but

actually,

actually- 9

Shubh: million Christmas card views ...

Alyssa: but,

like,

also, like-

Shubh: I'm yelling

Alyssa: now ... influencers. And remember that Pete Davidson

was like, "I can't believe these, like, women are

getting all this money on influencing"?

Do you remember this? Yes, I do. Yeah. I

do. I'm just like, like, no, like influencing, like they pay so much fucking money, it's crazy.

Philippe: How many followers you got on Instagram?

Alyssa: How many followers you got?

Um, 15,000, which I'm

actually- Okay ... a micro-influencer. Yeah. But,

like, I'm super proud

of that.

15,000 is not...

Shubh: And especially today, it

is hard

to actually get people

to follow.

Alyssa: Yeah.

Shubh: That's incredible. It is.

Alyssa: Yeah. Um, and, like, I

just one more note before we

kind of move

on, but-

Shubh: No, no,

Alyssa: let's talk about you ... back

Shubh: to resilience too. Back, [00:24:00] back to Brazilians.

Alyssa: Brazilians?

Shubh: Oh,

Philippe: resilience. Oh,

Shubh: what are you thinking about? Oh, resilience.

I thought you said

Brazilian.

I've had two problems. I think I'm getting- He's, like, literally

Philippe: staring at

me. I'm like- I think, I

think- ... "Oh, Phil,

I'm that good" ...

Shubh: I

think I'm getting old 'cause

yesterday, uh, E- Emmy, our friend Emmy

said,

"Phil, I've got a great tapas restaurant to recommend for you,"

and

I thought she said- Topless

topless restaurant. You're like- And I was like- ... "

Philippe: Yeah, yeah,

so fucking

Shubh: good. Yeah" ... I was like, uh- "Tell me about it" ... well, my bit was that it's just a restaurant with no roof.

Alyssa: Oh,

Philippe: that's cute. It was

a good bit, but

also, like, it was kinda

crazy that this woman I just

met- Yeah ... would be recommending

Shubh: a

topless establishment.

And, and if, and if you know

Emmy, that

is, like,

a million

miles away from anything that she

would

Alyssa: recommend- But also, like-

to people ...I find, and this

is,

like-

Shubh: So back to resilience.

Alyssa: Resilience. But-

Shubh: Not Brazilians. Brazilians. are cool. Brazilians. Hey, Brazilians

Alyssa: are cool

Shubh: too.

Alyssa: Yeah.

Shubh: All, all

parts of Brazilians are cool.

Yeah.

Alyssa: So- You know, I don't wanna generalize, but also back

to the topless bar-

Yeah ... um,

topless restaurant. Men like

just like don't, you

guys don't understand when people are like

coming onto you. So like I'm

actually interested

to

know- Well, it's

Shubh: never [00:25:00] happened for

me, so-

Alyssa: See, that's the fucking problem ... but, yeah Like dev- it definitely has.

Mm. So if a woman's like, "Hey, have

you been to this topless bar?"

You're like,

"Oh, doesn't have a roof." Whoo.

You guys are so funny. That is

Shubh: a

Alyssa: good

Shubh: joke though, right?

Alyssa: Yeah. It's

Shubh: a pretty good joke.

Philippe: Yeah. I fall

into that category of not knowing when people are coming onto

me. Yeah. Yeah.

It,

it's gotta be really obvious.

Alyssa: Yeah.

Philippe: Yeah.

Shubh: I, I mean,

my w- my wife has, uh, I'm sure come onto me in the last

years.

Nice. But I don't know that anyone else ever has,

so.

Alyssa: Mm. I-

Shubh: And

I'm not saying this, I don't lack confidence.

Alyssa: No. I, I promise

they have. Mm. Like

the amount of times that like my husband and I have been like walking Yeah ...in the grocery store- and a girl's like,

"Can you

pass me that?"

Yeah. And he's like, "Okay," and like grabs like-

"No problem."

Shubh: So if you're a woman out there who has come onto me in the past, just write in.

Alyssa: Okay, great.

Shubh: Let us know.

Alyssa: Send the

DMs.

Shubh: Send

them to

my wife.

Alyssa: Send,

Shubh: send

Alyssa: Brasilia the

Shubh: DMs. Send me,

uh...

we should get,

uh, a waxing place to sponsor the

pod. A

dry salt waxing place.

Yeah, that's [00:26:00] great. Get rid of the hair, plus the dry salt-

Why a waxing

place? You'll never sweat again. Where did

Philippe: that come from? '

Alyssa: Cause the Brasilia. The

Shubh: Brasilia.

Philippe: Oh,

the Brasilia.

Alyssa: Stick with

it. Come on,

Philippe: Phil.

Oh, I

Alyssa: see. You're

Philippe: better

than that. I thought we were talking about s- uh,

Shubh: the country. Phil, this is the only time you've

been

in a room where two people's brains are trying to fire faster

than yours.

Like it's never happened

before to

Philippe: you. It wa- you, you, you juiced

the

game. You got everyone else

a coffee except for me. Yeah. Oh,

Shubh: for

fucks

Philippe: sake. I'm so, so, I'm

so- Here

Shubh: you go. So I, I, I texted

at 6:30

this morning.

Alyssa: Yeah.

Shubh: And Lissa got back to me right away.

Alyssa: Yeah,

because I was already up getting ready- Yeah

and it made sense. And

Shubh: which was also, I was, I

laughed 'cause she asked for an extra espresso shot. And again, I don't know you that well, but I'm like, "I don't think you need the

extra caffeine."

Alyssa: Bro, come on. Stop bullying me

on the

podcast. I'm here as

a volunteer.

Shubh: And then Philippe was like,

"Hey, no, Shubh, I'm already up.

I'm working on a

coffee right now." Then we had a conversation about,

uh, jokingly about the, the 5:00

AM grind club, which neither of us would ever

be a

member of.

Alyssa: No.

Philippe: That's stuff is

so stupid.

Shubh: You know what Phil said to me? I think it's so dumb. Phil said if

he didn't have to

work, he would wake up at 10:30 every day.

And I was like, "Absolutely." Yeah. [00:27:00] "That is the

perfect time to wake

Alyssa: up. Me too.

Shubh: Yeah.

Alyssa: And also these people who are

like, "We have the same 24 hours in

the day."

I'm like, at

5:00

AM I have,

you know, baby puke on me. Yeah. No, we don't have the same

24 hours.

Shubh: Yes.

Alyssa: Let's be honest.

Shubh: Yeah. I, uh, I

only

get up

early in

the morning now because I have to get

my children to school on time.

Yeah. And

they start school early.

Alyssa: Yeah. What d- 'cause they're back... What, what grade are they in now?

Shubh: Five, seven, and nine.

Alyssa: Oh,

crazy.

Shubh: I know. Can you believe

it? You

two. It's crazy. I mean-

Marker
---

Hi, everybody. It's Shubh here. Are you a startup founder or a scale-up exec that's trying to take your company to the next level? Are you looking for the right people to help you do it? Are you looking for people who will help you set culture, who have deep domain expertise, who can figure anything out, who are Swiss Army Knives and unicorns?

How are you finding those people? Are you juggling multiple job boards? Are you screening hundreds of resumes, doing dozens of interviews? Is it working? I bet it's not. Are you frustrated? I bet you are. Do you know how I know that? Because [00:28:00] once upon a time, I was you. Then I discovered the New Network.

Jennifer Wiens and her team at the New Network help Canadian tech companies build and scale high-performance teams through a proven unique approach to recruitment and executive search. Also, they're awesome. I used them to help build most of my team at ZayZoon, and I would use them again, and I've recommended them to everyone that I know.

Check out newnetwork.ca for more details. The New Network: I couldn't have done it without them.

Shubh: Uh, okay. Alyssa,

we've covered a lot of ground

Alyssa: here We have. We really have

Shubh: Resilience, confidence-

Mm-hmm ... tech sales-

Alyssa: Mm-hmm

Shubh: hosting weddings-

Alyssa: Mm-hmm ...

Shubh: uh, pod- Motherhood. Don't forget that one ... podcasting, motherhood,

uh,

husbandhood

Alyssa: Husbandhood,

yeah ...

Shubh: Christmas

cards

Alyssa: You bet

Shubh: uh,

w- carrying Philippe around.

Alyssa: Yep. Truly.

Philippe: That's right. Having to deal with

Remember, yeah, her back hurts from- Yeah, yeah ... carrying the

Shubh: whole-

How do you

stay in [00:29:00] shape?

I

host a podcast with Philippe.

Alyssa: That's a

really good joke.

Shubh: Thank you.

Alyssa: Topher's one, mediocre.

Shubh: Uh, in the moment- Nah,

that's pretty good

Alyssa: it was pretty good.

Shubh: You have to admit. Um, but

none of those,

uh, reasons are the reasons

you're here today.

Alyssa: Yeah.

Shubh: Uh,

Alyssa, do you

have a business idea to

pitch us today?

Alyssa: You

bet I do. Um, and it's a really exciting one.

Yeah. And,

you know, it does

kind of,

uh, f- piggyback off of

MCing- Okay ... um,

professionally.

Shubh: Yep.

Alyssa: But

hear me out. Are we ready?

Shubh: Uh-

Alyssa: I need

a drum roll.

Get me,

like,

psyched. Yeah.

Shubh: Oh. Yeah, I'm very- Mm. I'm ex- I'm

excited.

Alyssa: Welcome to- Vyb. V-Y-B.

Shubh: Ugh,

I just melted in my chair. V-Y-B. What a great-

V-Y-B. First of all, what a great way to start a pitch.

Vyb. You leaned into the mic. Goddamn, this woman's a professional. Okay.

Alyssa: Okay, so back to how many times have you been at an

event that is [00:30:00] boring? We've

talked about this.

Shubh: All the

time.

Alyssa: Every single, like, corporate event you

go to,

but, like,

a first

birthday party,

boring.

Shubh: Yeah.

Alyssa: Right?

Shubh: Yeah. Give us a, give us the name

of

the child- Right ... the last first birthday party you went to.

Alyssa: Um, actually my, my, my own-

Yeah ...was, uh-

you know, boring. It's pretty...

Of course it's boring. But we always... Like, uh, most

of my friends' first birthday parties is

actually,

like, a way to, like...

We have, like, margarita machines going.

Right. Yeah,

Because that's fun, but

most first birthday parties, boring.

Right.

Um, let's think.

A funeral, boring.

Shubh: Snooze

Philippe: fest. Yeah. But- What the

Alyssa: hell

Philippe: is happening

Alyssa: here? Kind

of

any event. Now-

Shubh: Uh, any corporate event, boring ...

Alyssa: e- even,

like, weddings, and,

and I say this because when

anyone's planning one

of these events- Yep ... everyone is like, "I just wanna make sure people are having a good time," and they never do.

Shubh: Right.

Philippe: Maybe not for the funeral, but, but yeah.

Alyssa: Maybe not the- I, I don't know. Sometimes, like,

those Irish- The, yeah ... those Irish funerals- Yeah, yeah

are, like, pretty crazy. I mean, I've had a couple. Like- Yeah, like-

Shubh: We, we,

we

could find a way

Alyssa: yeah,

like,

like, celebrations of life can be- It does

Shubh: involve a shitload of

alcohol, [00:31:00] though.

Alyssa: Yeah, of course.

Shubh: Yeah. Yeah, that's resilience.

Alyssa: Yeah,

most of this, most of

this whole thing, you

know, is going to resolve- Yeah ... revolve,

involve a bunch of alcohol. We should

Shubh: get

an

alcohol sponsor.

Philippe: Yeah.

Alyssa: Okay. Who?

who's your favorite?

Shubh: Uh, I

don't wanna pick, uh, say one.

Alyssa: Yeah, you're right. That's

fair.

Shubh: Yeah, because I want to, I

Alyssa: wanna- Not, that's not good for business.

I wanna- Alcohol.

Shubh: Yeah. Alcohol. Sponsor. This

episode- is brought to you by

Alyssa: alcohol. Okay.

So, um, you're

at these events, and all these, all the developers and all of the planners of events are like, "I just want

people to have

a good time." Yeah. Weddings, people, like, you hear people

say "I

just,

I just want

everyone to dance."

Shubh: Yeah.

Alyssa: Um,

you know,

funerals... I'm kidding.

not funerals. Yeah. But,

um, at corporate events, they're

like, "I just want everyone to, like,

leave feeling something."

Shubh: For the record, at my funeral, I want everybody to

have a

good time.

Alyssa: No, I do too, and that's when

Phil's

like, "No, no." Yeah. I was like- "I don't know."

Shubh: I'm gonna have a

morning.

I'm gonna

have Phil come,

Phil come up and do, like, five minutes

of bits.

Alyssa: I saw something, I

forget where it

was, where it was like, "I

want them to, like, hang me up and, like, spin me around the room to

Space Jam." Everybody get up this

time. Anyways.

Shubh: Okay.

Alyssa: That's rough.

Shubh: I, I don't know that I

love that.

Alyssa: [00:32:00] Okay.

I- Anyways,

cut.

Shubh: Yeah, yeah.

Alyssa: Cut that.

Shubh: She's come

back to life.

Alyssa: Yeah. No. Um, okay,

so back

to Vibe

Everyone's looking

for that person in the

room to be able to be the extrovert in the room- Yes ... to bring

up the vibe in the room.

Shubh: Oh my God.

Alyssa: And the extroverts, Phil, actually, I think all of us here-

Mm-hmm ... are

this

person. We don't get paid for our talents.

It is a talent to walk into a room and, like,

to bring up the vibe in a room.

Shubh: Yeah.

I am on record as saying- ... that people

should probably pay me after I spend time at an event.

Alyssa: No- Right ... I often feel that. I'm like- Yeah ... "I made that event." And it doesn't matter if I'm hosting or not.

Like, at a

wedding

and I'm

like, doesn't matter, like, what

cultural wedding, I'm in the middle and I'm making everybody dance.

We're doing

the Chicken Dance, you

know?

Uncles are loving

me. I'm doing,

I'm making uncles-

Right ... do, like,

do, like, shots. Like-

Shubh: Yeah ...

Alyssa: there's something about

an, a, like an extreme extrovert in a room- Yeah

who brings the vibe. Yeah. That

is

what makes an event.

Shubh: [00:33:00] Yeah.

Alyssa: Vibe

is a

marketplace that places extroverts with willing and

wanting, um, event planners.

Philippe: Amazing.

Shubh: This is an

incredible idea.

Alyssa: And

so basically we're, we're planting extroverts

in a room. Now,

I came up with this idea

partly because there's

a woman who does very well

being a

stand-in bridesmaid.

Shubh: Get out of here.

Alyssa: So she gets paid- No way ... to be a

bridesmaid. 'Cause, like,

a lot of women are like, "I don't have as many friends as, like, I'm kind of embarrassed I don't have as many

friends." Yeah, like,

Shubh: I

love you, man.

Alyssa: Yeah.

Like, my, exactly.

Yeah. Um, my husband, like,

or, yeah. So

she gets paid to be like a- Stop

pretend bridesmaid, and

they have,

like,

a full backstory, usually met in college,

and then she basically

brings, like, the vibe

for the

wedding party.

Mm-hmm.

Philippe: Oh, this is

a good

friend of

yours?

Alyssa: No, No,

no. Oh. This is someone I

saw on

TikTok. Oh, okay.

Um, we gotta find her. Um, and I was like,

"Well,

what if we did that same

concept and same model for, like,

the vibe bringer in a party?

Yeah.

So

now you can also ensure, 'cause now you

have, [00:34:00] like, we

can

do,

like, a

money-back guarantee for the marketplace, right? I don't know. Um- No, we're not doing that. We're

not quite

Shubh: there. Hey, uh, sell- But- ... you

need to sell with more confidence.

Alyssa: Uh,

money-back gu- but when, but

here's

the thing is, like, when

you say,

like, "Oh, I don't know, money-back

guarantee,"

then people are just like, their guards are down.

Yeah,

yeah. So actually,

you gotta take a sales course or

something. Totally confident.

Shubh: Money-back guarantee

is good. Hey, uh,

we

do this thing now where we're like, "Hey, listen, this, we cost a lot of money." Yeah. "But we're pretty sure we're worth it."

Alyssa: I like that.

Shubh: And people are

like, "Uh, o- okay."

Alyssa: Okay.

Shubh: Anyway.

Alyssa: So vibe. And, and- It costs a lot of money.

Yeah. But I'm pretty sure it's worth

Shubh: it. It's very...

What did Seb say

on the first episode? He was like, "Uh, it's very expensive,"

and he just, uh, "So

let's just

do that." Right.

I love this. You could have a person,

you could have

a couple.

Uh-

Alyssa: Totally.

Shubh: Yeah.

Alyssa: You can have, like, different, different, f- yeah, it, it's basically like a, like a, like an energy stripper.

Philippe: Right.

Shubh: I was just

about to say- Yeah. ... it's a bit like, uh, we're talking

about the model

as,

like an escort

or stripper service basically-

Yeah. But for

Alyssa: vibes.

Shubh: strippers, but

for vibes

Alyssa: Strippers for vibes.

And like, so it doesn't

matter, like, like

who, like, like you know like that

like, that like hilarious u- it doesn't

have [00:35:00] to be like

good-looking people.

It could be s- that, that, that

like

crazy uncle who's

like gonna- Yeah ...

like start shit. And then

maybe-

Shubh: Well, I don't want somebody starting shit

Alyssa: But that's what I'm wondering. Maybe somebody does I guess you...

Shubh: Yeah.

Alyssa: Right? We

don't know-

Right? It's

like a memory ... yeah,

maybe,

maybe somebody's like, "We actually want s-

like

a fight to happen at this wedding."

Vibe.

Philippe: Vibe.

We

Alyssa: can do- But you

gotta find like this

like, yeah.

Shubh: So

Philippe: I,

uh- You could

have someone at every table. 'Cause even at the- Exactly ... at the

toast, uh, after dinner,

uh, April Pomiz was like, "Just so

you know,

you got the most boring

table."

Shubh: Yeah. And then, and then

I was lucky enough that, that- That, but people

give you that job, right?

They give you the job.

They know they're putting you at the most boring table- Right. Exactly ... 'cause

like Phil's

Alyssa: gonna grind it out. But here's the thing, is like that is unpaid labor.

Philippe: That is

unpaid

Alyssa: labor. That is unpaid labor- I mean, you get dinner,

I

Shubh: guess.

Alyssa: But no, like a-

but like, anyway, everyone gets paid f- d-

dinner.

Yeah. It

is

unpaid

labor for the extroverts in the room, and

I'm happy

to do it because

it's who

I am.

And Phil- Yeah ... and I

think all of us are happy to do it. I

Shubh: like it.

Alyssa: But

I st- I wanna start monetizing it.

Shubh: Yeah,

it's awesome. I am one fucking hundred percent on board with this idea. And

Alyssa: I guarant-

[00:36:00] like I know this is like

so silly, but I guarantee

there's people who are like, "If I could

actually hire you to come

into like my event to

like just like make sure people are having a

good time,"

they, they'd pay.

listen. listen. So

like

can we like

market, market it right now? Like, like what

do

we

Philippe: think?

Alyssa: Yeah,

Shubh: yeah. Camera one, Camera one.

Our, our, our friend, our

friend Chuck,

uh, who came on the pod, his wife Laura, is fabulous at

this. So you have a

party with like different groups

of people.

Mm-hmm. She

will go and interact with everybody.

Exactly. 'Cause when you,

you know, when you're having

like

a house, I mean, we don't have as many house parties in my old age, but when you

have people together, like these

people are from, uh,

the kids' soccer team. These people are from work. These people are from... Who's gonna-

Alyssa: Exactly ...

Shubh: who's gonna glue it all together?

Alyssa: Vibe

Philippe: This is amazing.

Shubh: This is a,

an incredible i- and I

actually... It's an incredibly funny idea.

Alyssa: Yeah.

Shubh: And it's an actual business idea.

Alyssa: Because, and I,

and I, and I actually th- because w- there's all of the research pointing to people are really missing that, like, in-person-

Oh, my God, yeah ... connection,

right? And people don't...

Especially, like,

the, a lot of

younger people who were in high

school during COVID, they're

now,

they're now [00:37:00] starting to work place. Yeah. And they

kind of miss that, that social

ability to, like, figure out who they are.

Shubh: Yeah.

Alyssa: Like,

they need

support, and it really helps both sides. 'Cause like you

said, it is exhausting being the expert in the room, too.

Yeah. Because everyone looks at you, and I love doing it, but-

Shubh: I love it ... I love the

attention. I love asking people. I just basically love doing crowd work. So, like, basically- Right ... I

just, like, meet new people, ask them some questions, and then I just do 10 minutes of bits.

Alyssa: No. Really.

But

you should get paid for your time.

Shubh: I also agree with you on that.

Alyssa: Right?

Philippe: A- and if you're planning a

wedding, it's like

just such a

no-brainer. It's like,

if, if everyone is... W-

what if my friends aren't fun?

Shubh: Yeah.

Philippe: I-

Alyssa: Exactly. All right,

Shubh: let's just- Then juice it ... this,

this is probably gonna be an immodest, uh, part of the segment for all three of us.

Alyssa: Okay.

Shubh: But

how

many times have you gone to an event where you didn't know too many people at your table,

and you were like, "Those people had the most fun they've ever had at a wedding"? Like,

Alyssa: 100%, and I,

and it's, and I, I, mm.

Shubh: Because of

Alyssa: me. Because of you. No, because of me. And you know that they left, and I get texts being like...

I,

I, and I,

I,

I know this isn't everybody,

but, like, people are like, "It's

so hard to make friends,"

and I'm like, "It's hard [00:38:00] not

to make friends."

Shubh: Yeah.

Alyssa: Like, I'm, I'm, I'm friended out.

Shubh: Yeah.

Alyssa: I'm

exhausted.

But yeah, I get texts being like, "That was so amazing. I love you," and like, I, from

the bride being like, "Hey, they had such a

great time."

Shubh: Okay.

Alyssa: I know.

Shubh: Let's- Pay me. This is,

this is, this is such a great idea. This is such a great idea. I'm gonna move to a part of this that we've

never done before-

Alyssa: Okay.

Shubh: Which is, how

do we launch this

in the next two weeks?

Alyssa: And,

and my first question is, like, we need to start thinking- Yeah ... about what people would pay for this.

So, like, let's say, like, a, a typical, like, um-

P- ... you

know, like,

like,

what, what would you even call this?

Like, would

$500 for a wedding?

But, like, weddings are... Like, I think $1,000 for a wedding.

I

Philippe: think 1,000.

My mind was going immediately $1,000 a person to plan it.

Alyssa: And

then for, like, for, like, a corporate event,

like

five?

Philippe: Thousand?

Shubh: Yeah. Yeah. I think 2,500 floor for a corporate event.

Alyssa: Okay.

Shubh: If it's an

evening corporate event, like, you gotta give up the whole evening, it's five. Yeah, five grand. Yeah. Five grand gets you two people, I think. I think at

corporate events, my, my

sense is-

Alyssa: Okay ...

Shubh: corporate events and weddings we might need to send two [00:39:00] people, 'cause it is- Yeah, I think so

a bit of a challenge

sometimes to be a

single extrovert at

a wedding.

Alyssa: Totally. You- Where if it's

a couple-

Shubh: You need

a, you need a,

a, you need

doubles.

Alyssa: Yeah.

Shubh: It's kinda like a... You know

where else this could

be applicable? Trade

shows.

Alyssa: To...

100%.

Shubh: So Tate and I would- Oh,

my God ... go to the trade show booth,

and we would just do bits because we'd be so

bored.

Right. But that would draw more

people in.

Alyssa: Exactly.

Yeah, so, like, so

not just, like, the, like, the overall trade show. Like, the

individual booths- Yes

could hire the extrovert.

Because,

Philippe: for example, when

your husband bought a hat

from us at, we had a booth, um-

Alyssa: And it's his favorite

hat,

Philippe: by the way ... it's his favorite hat.

My- shout

out

to my

friends at

Cowboy Club who, who run

this.

I

was

helping them

out. But when

there would

be no one,

everyone would just

pass by our booth.

And so I would just go out there and pretend like I was

a customer.

Right And, and go,

um,

"Hey, like, what's

going on with these

hats? They're so cool." Oh

my God.

To

like

attract attention.

And so at a trade show- That's incredible

you could even,

uh, you could be double-dipping. You could be

like, "All right, I'm gonna spend 30 [00:40:00] minutes at this

booth." Yeah. "30 minutes at this booth."

Alyssa: Got

Philippe: this one. Yeah.

Alyssa: And

then as

you're saying

that, I'm

thinking like a

launch of like a new location, like a new restaurant.

A launch of like- Yeah ... a new, a

new car dealership.

So, uh, like

truly,

like I, I truly think we're onto something. I think it's just figuring out the, the, the

pricing.

And then I

think also, like there could be

like an

executive or like a

enterprise pricing where

like you actually get to

like,

um, like get down into the details of like what you want to happen that day.

Like you can really like- Right ... you

know.

But of course,

you're gonna have like an onboarding call with any of the, of,

of them. Yeah. Yeah. Um,

and,

and it really is like

a easy

tech marketplace.

Philippe: Very- Well,

it is a two-sided marketplace, right? It is. Do you think

that the- Yeah.

Shubh: What,

what, let's talk about...

Philippe: Oh, go ahead.

Is, is there any constraint on the extrovert side, like? No.

do, do you

think everyone would do it for free? Like I, 'cause I'm

trying to think, would

I go to a restaurant opening and be paid

to like, but I like need to

show up, and maybe I

need to like-

Shubh: Yeah, does it take

the fun- ... dance a little bit or something

out of extroversion if it's a job?

Alyssa: That being said- It's a different extroversion ... that's

a, that's an interesting question. But does it put the fun into [00:41:00] job?

Shubh: Well, or-

Or do you-

Alyssa: Did you ever see that? Do you just Don't,

don't, don't jo- love your job, job your love. Have

you seen that? Do you- It's like an

Instagram thing.

It's so

dumb. Do

Shubh: you just... Yeah. 'Cause

maybe like, hey, I might think about going to this

event anyway.

Alyssa: Yeah.

Shubh: But now I'm really, I'm not gonna do anything differently.

Alyssa: And now I'm getting paid a, $1,000 to go to this

event that I was already gonna go to. Yeah. Or now I'm going, or like

it

influ- now I'm

gonna go to this like event.

How-

get paid $1,000 to just like be

there, plus like influencing stuff.

Shubh: How are you

vetting your, uh,

your, your roster?

Alyssa: That's gonna be

the question. Yeah. Um, it would probably start like

very, um, niche kind of- Yeah ... like word of mouth first. Yeah. But then we'd probably have like

a onboarding process set

in place.

Philippe: Yeah.

Alyssa: Um, yeah. And there'd be

no lift financially

from the extrovert. They would just, like

it would all be, the

financial would all be on the business.

Shubh: Yep.

Alyssa: On the, on the hirer.

How much are

Philippe: you taking as the business,

Shubh: 20%? Yeah. Yeah, take at

Alyssa: least 25, 30. I'm thinking like 25.

Shubh: Yeah.

Philippe: Okay.

Alyssa: Yeah.

Shubh: This is [00:42:00] just a staff aug. Uh,

Alyssa: yeah ... consulting, consulting

thinking, thinking 25 Yeah And

then,

and then, and then they get to keep their tips. So

we'll, we'll, we'll, like, we'll-

Shubh: Oh, I can get a tip?

Alyssa: Well, that's what I'm thinking. We have, like, a, an additional tip option.

Oh. Oh, wow. You

tip everybody else.

Shubh: And you can have add-ons. You'd be like,

"Hey, if you

want them to come up and do,

like, a couple minutes of mic."

Alyssa: Exactly.

Shubh: It's another 500.

Philippe: Oh, wow.

Alyssa: Exactly. I mean- Or if you

want,

like, content.

Okay, so now I'm gonna bring an, I- like,

an extrovert in, but I'm also gonna have them do content

for me.

Now it's like

a, like, a

package, like a, like a

$5,000 package.

Shubh: I, um, for a couple of

those weddings I did, we did custom, we did, like, parody songs.

Like,

I played guitar- Geez ...and did a parody song, and

then me and my buddy Gregory did a parody to a Lady Gaga

song.

Alyssa: Okay.

Shubh: Uh, for... We could charge, like, two grand. "We will do a parody

song

for your event."

Alyssa: No,

exactly. Like-

Philippe: Uh,

what about, my mind is also going to, what if you're, like,

a small

startup, everyone on the team

is introverted-

Shubh: Yeah.

A

Philippe: boat. Right ... and, and you got no

one to speak.

Shubh: Yeah.

Philippe: Or, or, like, you only have the

CEO to speak, [00:43:00] and then everyone else on the team he

doesn't really trust. Right. So you hire this, like- This advisor ... "I'm gonna bring our VP

of,

of development up," and it's

just a paid actor

to, like- Exactly ... do a really good

Alyssa: speech.

So yeah, this is kind of paid actor, but

it,

but it's,

like, for specifically different kinds of professional spaces

to bring that community back together. Um- Absolutely.

Shubh: That's

another great source for the two-sided marketplace is struggling actors.

Alyssa: Exactly. Right. But struggling actors, like,

like,

often are, like- There's-

they're struggling for a

reason. They're struggling,

Philippe: right. Yeah. Hey, you're overacting over there.

Shubh: Yeah.

Philippe: Calm it down.

Shubh: I, uh,

I think this is an actionable

idea. Well, you're kinda doing it

already. I,

Alyssa: I kind of am do- And

that's

why I was like,

okay, but,

like, what if we, like, brought

it, like, bigger than just me? So I'm, am kinda doing

it, like- Yeah.

and I said this, like, years ago, when I was like, "I just wanna be

a vibe." And then I was like-

Shubh: I love vibes. Yeah. I'm also in this, uh,

sort of, uh,

era of my career

where

I'm like, uh, I'm calling

it the focus on nothing era.

Alyssa: Love.

Shubh: Which, uh, just means, like,

somebody's like, "Hey, do you wanna do

this thing?" I'm like,

"Maybe."

Alyssa: [00:44:00] Yeah.

Shubh: Uh, if it's cool, yes. Yeah. If it's not cool, no. But then, uh, yeah.

And it's very fun.

Alyssa: But what is it also, like, even, even if you're, if you're

listening and you're

beginning of your career, when

has that ever, like, steered you wrong, when you just,

like, say

yes to things that, like, feel good?

Shubh: Totally. Yeah. Yeah. Saying

yes is great. Uh,

I am

so excited about this idea

Alyssa: Yeah, so we're looking for investors. Yeah. The three of us are the

co-founders.

Shubh: Um- I don't

think we need anybody's money.

Philippe: I don't

think

so. You just book a customer.

Shubh: Just fucking

go.

Alyssa: Okay.

Shubh: Let's do

Philippe: it. Right?

Alyssa: Okay. You sh- Yeah,

we can build like a qu- like a

quick marketplace.

It's not gonna be like that.

Shubh: I

could, I could-

Philippe: Well, you, you start

super, you start super- It's just

2_CAMERA 2: the

Shubh: three of us. We're the initial roster.

Philippe: We're

the initial roster.

Alyssa: And like, honestly, we actually have everybody. Like, anything that's, like, really conservative- We got a white man ... is

like,

Philippe: I want-

Yeah, yeah.

We

got a white man.

Phil, Phil's- We got, like, the- I think Phil's at

a Alberta

referendum rally- Yeah ...

Alyssa: as we speak.

Yeah, yeah. We,

we

got like the perfect, you know- Yeah ... uh,

yeah- like- Yeah ... yeah, exactly. If,

like, any

of, like, those,

like, cor- yeah, the, uh, not even... No. And then we have, [00:45:00] we have

me. Yeah. I feel like with me,

though, like, like

I,

I...

We'll have to vet some

of the people 'cause I might be hired for

other

things. Um-

Philippe: What do you mean?

Alyssa: Like-

Philippe: Oh, you think it gets a

little tricky with w- women

Alyssa: maybe? Maybe. I mean- Yeah ... as, as

I'm talking, I'm just

like, I

wonder,

like safety-wise, we'll

have to make sure that, like-

Yeah, yeah ... that like-

Shubh: Well, I think,

I think we start corporately.

Alyssa: But here's the thing. As soon as, like, people pay for somebody- Yeah ... they feel- They expect

you to do stuff ... an ownership of sorts. Yeah. So

yeah, so HR. I see. We're gonna need an HR-

Shubh: We got-

Alyssa: representative please.

Shubh: We'll

get some, we'll get some lawyers on

the team. That's why I like the idea of always sending

two people as well.

Alyssa: Yeah. No,

and I think if we did,

if we did corporate- Yeah ... and start, started there-

Shubh: Yeah ...

Alyssa: I, I-

Philippe: Margins are immediately bigger.

Alyssa: Yeah, so-

Shubh: Yeah, corporate. Yeah. I

mean, you know all the podcasts out there that

have no listeners that companies pay

for.

Alyssa: Yeah,

so we're gonna

do our

beta round. So

if you

are Yeah possibly looking for something

like this-

Shubh: Yeah, let's

Alyssa: put this out there

free for the first-

No, no ... two people.

Shubh: [00:46:00] No,

hold on a second. I'm

gonna jump in

here real

quick. Is

this, is this,

Philippe: uh-

Shubh: Well,

50% off

Philippe: for the first two.

Alyssa: Okay, 50% off.

Philippe: 50% off. Is this, uh, um-

Shubh: Just use the promo code YBIOTL.

Philippe: W-

Alyssa: Yeah ...

Philippe: o- once I applied to be a spy. I did

not get it, but,

um- ... I went through three rounds.

Shubh: 'Cause he kept walking into places and being like, "Oh,

Philippe: it's me. I'm a spy in

Shubh: here."

Philippe: Bada boom, bada bing. Yeah. I just,

like, I would order

a coffee. I'd go, "You know I'm a spy,"

Shubh: and I would

wink.

Philippe: And then, And then,

Shubh: he'd walk around and

be like , "Do, do, do, do,

do, do,

do.

Philippe: Do,

Do, do, Yeah. And Cece's called me He go, "You gotta

stop doing that, bro." And he'd

be

Shubh: like, "It's me, Phil. I'm wearing sunglasses."

Alyssa: "It's not me." Okay,

Shubh: sorry. Keep going. "

Alyssa: I'm Enrique Iglesias."

Shubh: It's

Enrique.

Philippe: Um,

but this, is this

spy-esque

in the

sense that we got

fake names, fake

Shubh: backstories? Oh,

interesting.

Alyssa: No,

I don't, I

don't think

so because,

like,

you're also, like,

like,

um, like if you're

an influencer

in

the city, your name's kind of already known.

Right.

[00:47:00] You're just paying

for that

additional extra version.

It's a commodity

Shubh: But

I, I also do like the

idea of creating some, uh, additional backstory elements.

Alyssa: Okay.

Shubh: So let's say, you know,

well let's

say somebody at a wedding

is like, "Hey, we need

four or five people to punch- Of

course ... punch it up a little."

Alyssa: Okay. Right. Makes a lot of sense.

Shubh: Okay. Well,

how do you know,

uh,

the group? Well, Philippe will obviously

have been in a fraternity.

Philippe: Yo.

Shubh: I'm sorry ...

Alyssa: Bro.

Shubh: Uh, uh, but, you know, like, we, we'd have to create some sort of

connection point- You're right ... 'cause otherwise you're like- We

Alyssa: would have

to make story ...

Shubh: you're like, "Well, how do you know the bride and groom?" "I was hired to make your table

less boring." Also, that would be a funny

bit, though,

if I was like, "Actually, I don't know the bride and groom.

They just hired me to make this

table less boring." That's actually how I'd start

Alyssa: the, start the- Okay, okay, also, I

need

to, like, jump in here, too,

o- speaking of weddings. Yeah. So

Steve and I, um, we were one day, uh, we were, like,

staying in Lethbridge 'cause we

were just going on a little date. Don't ask me why we were in

fucking Lethbridge- Yeah

but

we did. [00:48:00] Um, and there was

a wedding in the, in the hotel,

and we- And you went.

Yeah,

so we were like- You Crashed. Yeah, so we were like, "Okay,

like, let's,

like, sneak down there and get

in there."

And we, like, worked for, like, an hour on, like, our side bits and, like- Yeah ... everything. We get in there, it's a dry wedding.

So

we were like-

Oh,

my gosh ...this was, like, so anticlimactic. So we Googled other Lethbridge weddings because we were like, now on

a Le- like, on a

wedding high.

Yeah. Yeah. So we found a

wedding, went to it,

and it was,

like, open bar, so fun, and we were dancing, and this guy comes up to Steve, and he goes,

"What the

fuck are you doing at my sister's wedding?"

Shubh: Yeah.

Alyssa: Turns out he knew, like, he, like, he knew

the brother

of the, of the bride. She came over, and

she was like, "Are you guys

crashing my wedding?" Yeah. And was thrilled. Yeah. No way.

She thought it was- She's got a story ... the coolest thing in the world. She's got a great story. And we were

dancing all night.

and of course, like, we left,

like, a bunch

of money for,

like- Yeah

for, like, drinks and stuff. Um, but, uh-

Shubh: You

covered, you covered what you

drank.

Alyssa: Sh- yeah, we covered what we drank.

We left, like...

Um,

she was thrilled.

Shubh: Whoa. Whoa. Yeah. Wouldn't you...

If, if your wedding

crashers were fun.

Alyssa: Right, and, like,

[00:49:00] respectful and, like-

Shubh: Yeah. You would

think it's an incredible story. It's n- it's

not fun when the wedding crashers show up, and they're just like...

You're

like, "Who are these fucking weirdos?" Yeah,

exactly. Yeah.

Philippe: Yeah. They're

trying to sleep with the bridesmaids. So, like...

Alyssa: Yeah.

I'm just thinking

about the movie. What, is that from,

from,

personal

experience,

Shubh: Phil? Yeah, yeah.

Wedding, Wedding,

wedding crashers.

Alyssa: You come

in as

a spy. Do, do, do, do. It's me, Phil. I'm here to sleep with the bridesmaid.

I'm a spi- I'm a spy.

Shubh: Uh,

I just wanna say, if I went to

a wedding or

a corporate event, and I was, like, dreading it, and I sat down at my table, and either of you two were at the table, I would immediately light up.

Alyssa: 100%.

Shubh: And I'm a tough

nut to crack.

I'm not.

Alyssa: I know, I'm like, I'm

looking at you, I'm like, uh-

Very approachable ... I don't think so.

Philippe: Yeah. But it is so much

labor, like-

Shubh: Can we trial, should

we trial this out? Should Alyssa and I come to the next

Tech Thursday event, and we... There's a lot of boring...

Alyssa: 100%.

Shubh: Sorry.

No, okay, listen.

I'm, I'm... Okay,

I'm not singling out Tech Thursday in general. When

you go to a tech related event, 90% of the room is very boring. [00:50:00]

Alyssa: Yeah.

Shubh: You know, they're

younger, they're nerds.

Uh- ... they ha- they don't know anyone else.

Alyssa: They're nervous.

Shubh: They just wanna pitch

you on their thing or like- Yeah ... get you to invest 'cause they think you have

money. 'Cause they

don't know ZayZoon has an

exit.

Um, oh, speaking of money, you

guys taking a

look

at the markets today?

Uh, anyway,

uh...

Philippe: I...

Shubh: I'm just saying, a

lot of boring people.

Alyssa: Yeah.

Shubh: So

why don't we... Alyssa and I just showed up at a Tech Thursday event. We trial this thing out.

Alyssa: Totally.

Shubh: And suddenly the room, like-

Alyssa: It shifts

Shubh: the, the vibes are just-

Alyssa: And you can't, you can't quantify like that

feeling of like when people are starting to have a good time.

Shubh: Yeah. I used to walk into a

room, and I'd say to people, "Hey, you feel that?" And they'd be like, "What the fuck

you talking

about?" I'd be like, "Do

you, do you

feel that though?"

Alyssa: And they're like, "Please get off

me."

Shubh: And like

Philippe: Please stop touching me.

I'm like...

Shubh: The vibe just shifted.

Alyssa: Yeah. '

Philippe: Cause Shubh is here. Coach Shubh is here.

Well,

Shubh: I mean,

I don't

Alyssa: wanna say it was

all me. I mean, we don't say that, but it,

we we, know. [00:51:00] Like, I, like, and I

think something about being

an extrovert is

you can also-

Philippe: People are

Shubh: gonna listen to this podcast and

be like, "These three fuckers."

Alyssa: Yeah. These, these actual narcissists. They think they're so

Philippe: good that

Shubh: I'm in the room.

Yeah. Listen, I'm gonna look, I'm,

I'm gonna look right in the

camera

for a second. Uh,

all great, uh, extroverts are

somewhat narcissistic-

Well, like, but think about it ... because we think people wanna

hear what we have to say.

Alyssa: But it's true. Yeah.

Shubh: But anyway. But I'm also saying, listen, I've

been in events with these people

this is true,

the impact that they'll have.

So you know what? Yeah, there's a little narcissism.

Philippe: Right.

Alyssa: Yeah.

Shubh: But, uh,

you know,

sell with confidence.

Alyssa: Yeah. And

can I give

them... I'm gonna give like an example that happened last night- Yeah ... of like what I

was able to do.

Yeah. So I

went to, at the EY Entrepreneurship,

Entrepreneur of the Year Awards last night.

Yeah. As an

Philippe: influencer.

Alyssa: As an influencer, which was fun. But

also April, CEO of Toast, won, um, the Social Impact Award, so super exciting. So the whole Toast team was there, and we're all like,

just, like, younger women- Yeah ... and there's

a bunch of like old men

in this room. Yeah. And it wasn't

boring per se, it just was like-

Shubh: Boring

Alyssa: not at the Toast

conference, right? Yeah, it

Shubh: just wa-

it

wasn't

[00:52:00] boring, it just wasn't interesting.

Alyssa: So

I slowly

start making dares

for all the girls

that they had

to complete

before they left.

Shubh: Okay.

Alyssa: Whoa.

Okay?

So, and they're gonna

hate me for saying this, but...

No

they won't, they're gonna think it's funny. Jill had to go and grab, they had like these glowing balls, and go to this random

guy and be

like- Yeah

"You look like you'd an award

too," and then give him this,

like, ball.

And she's like,

like, much more

introverted, and sh- we,

we were just howling.

Yeah. It was epic. It was so funny. Yeah. Um, I made a woman, her name's

Aurora Lumi, you might

know her, she's also amazing. Um, she had

to go up to a s- group of strangers

and make them all hold

hands, and then bring their hands

in and out, and in and out.

Oh

my God. And it

was funny 'cause,

like, we

were like, "Okay, like go do that," This is gonna look funny." Um,

but

as soon as you entered a group and did that, they were then, like, chatting and

more excited- Yeah ... and they were like, "Ha, this is

so funny." Breaking that ice.

And then it like, it like, it's almost

like the,

the rule...

What's that movie

where you have to give and then they give somebody else?

Remember the l-

the little kid? Never

fucking mind.

Philippe: I don't. Usually movie references go well.

Usually they usually do. Feels like

Alyssa: you're describing

Philippe: [00:53:00] human trafficking.

right now.

Alyssa: You

have a, you're describing

a pyramid scheme. yeah. You find one person- Yeah, yeah, yeah

Philippe: you

Alyssa: get six. Oh, you're talking about Contagion.

Philippe: Um,

pass it forward. Oh. P- Contagion.

Alyssa: Um, yeah, like the energy, like once you give energy to a group- Yeah, it travels ... then it gives...

Like, you know,

that's how you build vibe

in a room- Yeah ... and people don't realize that. It only

takes

like,

one person, and then like it's like a ripple effect.

So that's how we brought vibes last night. And there was like a poor accountant who was looking at us like he was staring at us like we had

six

heads because-

Shubh: Yeah, it's

not

gonna be for everyone ...

Alyssa: not for everyone. But,

but like... Yeah.

Shubh: I was just at a

dinner. I, I don't go to these very often 'cause I've got kids, and

I got,

I

had a window so I got invited to this dinner.

It's

a life sciences venture capital investment

dinner.

Yeah.

I, the, listen, I actually... Well, I have to say, the presentation was... I, I learned a lot.

Alyssa: Great.

Shubh: And then at the table I was like, "Okay-"

You gotta

jazz this thing up

a little. So I

started doing bits about, [00:54:00] um, this

is the most brown people that have ever been together at the

Ranch Men's Club.

Alyssa: Was it just you?

Shubh: Yeah, there was, there was- Yeah,

there was,

there

was th- there was three of us.

Uh, and then I did

a little, tried to do a little bit about cowboys

and Indians. Um-

Right ... and,

uh,

you know.

Alyssa: How'd it

go?

Shubh: I think it, I mean, I enjoyed myself.

The brown people liked it.

Alyssa: Great.

Shubh: Yeah. But, uh, so I think there's a real opportunity here.

I

think-

Alyssa: Thanks,

guys. I

Shubh: really-

should we- ... rate- ...sat with this ... this idea, Philippe?

Philippe: Yeah. I mean, it's easy. Uh, we rate it as the salsas, salsa scores. Okay. Yep. Uh, this is a 75 salsa.

Shubh: The

Philippe: ma- That's the top

Shubh: the max number is 75. That's the top. Yeah.

Alyssa: Okay.

Shubh: I will also give it 75 salsas, and I will go as far as saying- Perfect

Philippe: score

Shubh: this is the most, um, hilariously viable business- No

that's ever been pitched on this podcast.

Alyssa: Alex, what do you think? Can I get your- Oh, yeah Alex just

gave us

75. Oh, yeah.

Philippe: Uh-

I,

I love

doing the little bits though, so, uh, like, like the dares that you were doing. I was in [00:55:00] Halifax-

Alyssa: Yeah ...

Philippe: and we were

at

this club

not having a good

time at the club, so we left, and all of a sudden

my friend goes, we're, we're, like, downtown Halifax.

He goes, "Should we play

hide and go seek?"

I go, "Yep," immediately. The girls start counting. We run and

we hide. Incredible. I was hiding in a garbage can for 30 minutes, and I couldn't have had

more fun.

I was like, "This is

amazing."

Yeah. Yeah.

Uh,

Alyssa: yeah, I mean, you should- Everyone knows he's there. They're like, "Just let him

stay

in the trash. Fuck."

Shubh: I was gonna say,

he,

he

actually just had made up this story retroactively 'cause he fell into

a garbage can.

Alyssa: And then we were playing hide and seek. But I think, uh, we've lost whimsy. Yeah. That's another piece. We've lost whimsy. Like, we've lost this whimsy of

just, like, playing. I totally agree with you.

So like, I just w- all I

wanna

do is play.

Shubh: Just a few months before I left ZayZoon, we had this big dinner, all of our exec team, all of our board,

investors, our lawyer, like 20 people in the room, and everybody's having these little side conversations.

And I

was like, "No, this

is gonna work." We're in this big square.

So

I started going around the table. I was like, "Hey, what was your first job?"

Then it was- Right ... "Hey,

have you ever been [00:56:00] arrested?" Then it was, "Hey..." And the whole room now is listening to each person speak. Everybody

feels a little heard- Mm-hmm ... and

you learn a shitload about people.

Alyssa: And that's how you have that connection- Yeah ... is,

like finding similarities. And then I quit. Yeah.

Shubh: Eesh. Yeah.

Alyssa: But yeah, that's how you find, that's how you find that, like,

like, building

that

connection, like, it

is a science. It's like

you

have

to find that, like, commonality, and

then you have

to, like, have,

like, a shared moment

together, and,

like, vibe brings you that.

Shubh: We, we were just

talking about this yesterday with Emmy, like, uh, you know, the

kids will sometimes come home with the little bags

of questions to

ask at, like, a family dinner. Yeah. You

could just literally do a bunch of

that.

Alyssa: I was gonna say, exactly.

And,

like, the person like,

that person can just kinda go around and be like, "Hey," like, or you could

even be honest and be like,

"Yeah,

we actually hired someone to,

like,

start, like, connecting the groups," because yeah.

Shubh: I mean, I will

say- This is a great- Yeah ... I do do a really b- I, I do a great job of this when I know some people in the room. I

am curious

about how I'll do if I don't know anybody in the room.

Alyssa: So I actually had an, an opportunity to do

exactly this 'cause I went to, um, a conference [00:57:00] called Refed.

Shubh: Yeah. Oh, we got a rope.

Alyssa: Yeah. Oh, okay. Gotcha.

Shubh: Yeah, Yeah,

yeah.

Alyssa: Um,

now it was my

first time, so need tech, uh, first time I've ever worked in any kind of food space. Yeah. Okay?

Um, and I went to

ReFed,

which is literally a conference for, like, the food space,

and I knew

zero people.

Shubh: Yeah.

Alyssa: By the second night, I had 15 people out for

cocktail hour with me, and they were all,

like, like,

potential clients.

Yeah. 15. And 15 people, and we had so much fun,

and I picked this, like, bar,

and it was, like, a little cocktail hour that we went to.

Shubh: My only

hesitation- And

Alyssa: I knew

Shubh: zero ... about this business is

if they get Alyssa one year, then they're-

She's busy the next year, and then they get me,

and they're just like, "Oh- No, they'll love

Alyssa: you

Shubh: Alyssa's not here."

Alyssa: But maybe

I'll just be the trainer. Yeah. Because I am a

narcissist and do think I'm

pretty fun.

Shubh: Uh, Alyssa, you were magnificent.

Alyssa: Thank

Shubh: you. Uh,

your actual businesses are magnificent.

Alyssa: Thank you.

Shubh: Uh, get some confidence coaching everybody. Your idea is magnificent.

I'm glad to

have met you.

Oh.

I think

we're friends now.

Alyssa: I- 100% we are. We're

Shubh: buds. This is, you get this all the time. Uh, [00:58:00] I wanna be on the Christmas card,

uh, distribution list.

Philippe: Yeah,

Alyssa: likewise. Yeah. We

also need... We'll,

we'll talk offline

because I need some

support in- Yeah ... figuring out what the

idea is this year.

Shubh: Yeah. Mm. And we're gonna, we're gonna, we're gonna launch Vyb.

Philippe: We're gonna launch Vyb.

Alyssa: V-Y-B, baby.

Philippe: Come on

Shubh: now. Thank you again, and that's a wrap.

Philippe: Boom.
