S2E6: Bootstraps w/ Keri Lee

Canada’s Number One Business-Comedy Podcast is back with Keri Lee of BlueMarvel AI, an Alberta industrial AI company helping operators and executives better manage continuous process facilities. Keri joins Shubh and Philippe at Red Mile Records to talk about growing up on a farm near Longview, picking rocks, baling hay, working in water and sanitation technology, getting pulled into machine learning before it was cool, joining AltaML and eventually helping build BlueMarvel. Then Keri pitches Bootstraps, a marketplace for wealthy families who want their kids to understand what a hard day’s work actually feels like. The guys dig into farm chores, cabin jobs, staining decks, knocking down wasp nests, moving dirt piles, TaskRabbit in reverse, Camp Callous, cattle drives, tree chopping, fence building, log driving, and the very real possibility that privileged kids might come home able to fix a light switch. Then it gets even bigger: an adult version for people who would rather learn how to chop wood, change oil, weld, build a fence, fix a cabin, lay foundation, install a window, or make furniture than take another pottery class. Also: Learn how BlueMarvel came out of AltaML and Spartan Controls Shubh tries to make “Brown Marvel” happen Philippe’s rich-adjacent friend network comes under scrutiny The group debates whether having a billionaire friend counts if they never invite you on a jet Keri’s dad is the spiritual head counsellor of Bootstraps Philippe suggests the camp version and immediately improves the business Camp Callous gets workshopped as a brand The guys discover they would pay good money for adult trade-skill classes Both the kids’ version and adult version receive perfect 75 salsa scores Brought to you as always in part by The New Network. S2E5: Couch.AI and Committee.AI w/ Ismail Khalil

Canada’s Number One Business-Comedy Podcast is back with Ismail Khalil, founder and CEO of ReadyAI, formerly ReadyCar, an Alberta-born company building AI-powered workflow tools for pharmacies, medical clinics, community hospitals and now vet clinics. Ish joins Shubh and Philippe at Red Mile Records after driving down from Edmonton at 6AM, matcha in hand, to talk about building ReadyAI from his mom’s basement, working with customers like Rexall, Shoppers and Neighborly, going from early Jobber sales hire to VC to founder, and why more Brown people should probably drink matcha. Then Ish opens up the future and immediately starts talking about walls. The guys dig into physical AI, buttonless elevators, restaurant screens, the end of phones, Star Trek, AI risk, sushi orders that never get remembered, Meta’s metaverse pivot, VR skepticism, and eventually Shubh’s practical contribution to the future of humanity: Couch.AI, an AI-powered couch that knows who you are, adjusts to your body, supports your activity, and maybe tells you to stop eating nachos. Then Ish brings it back to earth with Committee, a fintech idea inspired by South Asian and immigrant community savings circles, auntie networks, e-transfers, emergency funds, wedding money, blockchain, trust, and the very real problem of helping people access pooled capital without getting wrecked by bad actors or predatory loans. Also: Ish explains how ReadyAI is expanding from pharmacies and clinics into vets Shubh realizes his entire network is doctors, dentists and medical professionals Philippe learns about holdcos The guys debate whether the world should become one giant phone Shubh becomes weirdly bullish on AI-powered furniture Philippe makes it very clear he does not want his couch taking his blood pressure Committee gets the kind of reaction Ish probably should have started with The guys accidentally recreate every VC rejection line ever Ish heads straight from the pod to Banff to sell to 500 pharmacists Brought to you as always in part by The New Network. S2E4: Atomic Bath Bomb & PopTop Plants w/Adam Thompson

Canada’s Number One Business-Comedy Podcast is back with Adam Thompson, founder of Friday Socks, a Calgary success story built on purposely mismatched socks. Adam joins Shubh and Philippe at Red Mile Records to talk about starting Friday Socks with $5,000 on a credit card, packing orders late at night in a one-bedroom condo, and building one of the coolest real businesses we’ve had on the show that now has socks in over 800 stores!!! Then Adam opens up his idea list and immediately starts dropping bombs...bath bombs that is! The guys dig into vitamin C bath bombs, Atomic Bath Bombs, Pop Top Plants, canned air, canned farts, fake “How’s My Driving?” complaint lines, pumpjack art, weight-loss belts, chef home-cooking content, five-gallon indoor gardens, and interactive finger-puppet books. Also: Friday Socks ships millions of pairs and is in roughly 800 stores Adam explains why mismatched socks are harder to design than people think Philippe discovers more than he ever expected to know about sock construction Shubh tries to make everyone buy Friday Socks before supporting any other local company Adam reveals he used to do stand-up The guys debate whether every product should come in a can Multiple ideas receive perfect 75 salsa scores “Gardening as a Service” briefly becomes the business Shubh actually needs Shubh and Pip socks become dangerously possible Brought to you as always in part by The New Network. S2E3: The Vitch w/Brooke Hahn

Season Two, Episode Three of Canada’s Number One Business-Comedy Podcast is here, and Brooke Hahn is back. Brooke, now CEO of Flockler, returns to the pod after delivering one of the earliest perfect pitches in YBIOTL history with BikeWash7000. Since then, Flockler got acquired, Brooke went on sabbatical, and somehow BikeWash7000 still has not been built. We are all disappointed. This time, Brooke joins Shubh and Philippe at Red Mile Records to pitch a new batch of ideas, including: The Vitch, a feminist answer to truck nuts A low-cost way to track kids’ lost water bottles, sweaters, and camp gear A legitimately useful personal life dashboard for insurance, benefits, passports, registrations, renewals, kids’ appointments, household admin, and all the adult responsibilities nobody warned us about Also: Brooke finally receives her YBIOTL light bulb and immediately asks for merch Shubh and Philippe debate trucker hats versus dad hats Rose, Bud, Thorn becomes a segment and then immediately turns into mostly thorns Philippe gives another dating-life update, despite Shubh’s friendship hat trying to protect him Brooke explains why dating is terrible Shubh complains about the beer selection at Tech Thursday Live We discuss corrupted audio, AI cleanup, Callaway Park, chimney sweeping, sauna insurance, passport chaos, and whether “the greatest gift is the present” came from Kung Fu Panda Plus, Shubh gives a deeply specific Flockler sales pitch and maybe invents “Thorns with Brooke Hahn” as a future Tech Thursday segment. S2E2: Shitbox & KnockKnockWhoisThere w/ Chad Hayden

Canada's Number 1 Business Comedy Podcast continues with its Number 2 season.  Shubh and Philippe record live at Motiv studio, with special guest Chad Hayden. Chad shares his extremely Albertan origin story, from roughnecking on drilling rigs to petroleum engineering, living in Denver and Houston, and eventually building Galatea, a venture-backed oilfield logistics technology company. Then he gets down to business and pitches Shitbox: a camera-enabled system that uses positive reinforcement to train your dog to poop in one designated part of the yard. The idea quickly expands to thermal cameras, Milk-Bone launchers, public shaming, geese, horses, cows and Shubh’s ongoing attempt to name his future dog something that will support a 12-year comedy bit. Philippe then explains a recent visit to the medical clinic, before Chad pitches Knock Knock, Who’s There?, a voice-activated door access system built around knocking, passwords and unnecessarily elaborate ways to let your friends into your house. That somehow turns into an even bigger idea: a company that creates elaborate real-world quests for gifts, birthdays, weddings and eventually venture capital term sheets. Chad also tells the story of attending one Tech Thursday and ultimately landing an investor he met there. They try to wrap. They fail. Instead, the conversation moves into suspicious vacuum stores, a potential investigative TV show about businesses that may or may not be fronts, Philippe accidentally getting free liquor, and finally his very bougie idea for a better Google Maps for boats. Ep30: The Secret Episode

Episode 30 of Canada's favourite Business-Comedy podcast Your Business Is On the Line is here, and it's a "secret". We go back in time to an episode recorded with little preparation, where Shubh and Philippe banter about audio improvements, a hockey-stick tape prototype, chart-watching as the show hits Canada’s top 100 entrepreneurship podcasts. We've got overly long intros, plus Chaz shares a life update about moving to a small Stratford apartment and missing a roommate’s cat. Chaos ensues as Lewis Horwood (PureLend) and Michael Rossi (NEO) are pulled into the room mid-recording; Lewis pitches “runmylife.ai,” an app that uses big-data-style insights to tell him what to do and reduce decision-making. The hosts help to define the product, discuss data access, and Mike riffs on dynamic insurance pricing based on real-time behaviour. Brought to you as always in part by the New Network. And we are VERY VERY proud to introduce a new sponsor, Center9, our preferred partner for all your Microsoft 365 needs. 00:00 Secret Episode Setup 01:50 Audio Wins and Prototypes 05:08 Podcast Pressure and Fans 09:10 Big Guests and Short Intros 11:09 Chaz Apartment and Cat 15:10 Guests Incoming Today 16:33 Sponsor Break 20:15 Lewis Joins the Studio 22:02 Meet Lewis and PureLend 25:42 Watford Football Woes 27:16 Phil Leaves Mid-Pod 28:52 Mike Rossi Crashes In 32:35 Run My Life AI Pitch 37:10 Decision Fatigue Debate 40:28 Insurance Monetization Twist 43:57 Salsa Scores and Feedback 48:12 Wrap Up and Teasers

Ep29: RestJet + Seb Returns!!

Episode 29 of Your Business Is On the Line features returning guest Sebastian Hiscock (PureLend Co-Founder, creator of SalsaScore) as the hosts riff on SalsaScore, cowboy/Stampede energy, and bringing back “hit” guests and discuss PureLend’s rapid growth and hiring, including what it’s like working the top-of-funnel and the hard-to-test traits of resilience and doing the right thing under pressure. Philippe and Shubh brainstorm a business idea around simulated, high-stakes crisis scenarios as a hiring stress test ), then Seb pitches “RestJet,” a premium end-to-end travel service where customers are anesthetized, boxed, transported, and wake up in their destination bed. The guys also detour into inference data centers (GPUs, model hosting/partnerships), space data centers, and pop-culture references. Go watch this movie: The Game (1997).
